

Le Jour se lève (or Daybreak) is a 1939 French film directed by Marcel Carné and written by Jacques Prévert, based on a story by Jacques Viot. At the Venice Film Festival, Le Jour se lève was nominated for the Mussolini Cup. In 1952, the film was included in the first Sight and Sound top ten greatest films list.

Francois (Jean Gabin), a sympathetic factory worker, kills Valentin with a gun. He locked himself in his furnished room and starts remembering how he was led to murder.As the film unfolds, Francois' motivations for murder are revealed.
